Music is vital to me, its hard to write about its such a personal thing, close like marrow and something I crave. Long nights of unpleasant truths, sunny days with the windows down and grit from the beach in tender areas, there is a song or melody that sums it up nicely. Smirk or smile, its out there. The day music and I became inseperable occured on an overcast afternoon. I was sitting at the kitchen table with my stepmonsters jam box in front of me. I turned the knob for what seemed like hours, trying to find something that made sense. A shaft of sun broke through the grey and I swear, shone brightly upon the the box, I had found a local station that played all kinds of music, from the Femmes to AC/DC and Sunday nights Dr.Demento. In high school I dated my first punk and he turned me onto Black Flag and a score of others.
I created the newsgroup because I saw a need for it. Over the years we've grown, though my musical tastes grow, I'll always have a place in my life for Rollins band. I refer to Henry as my patron saint of DIY (dont flatter yourself Henry, one day you'll be making a webpage all about me, my favourite colour is burgundy and Im not gay!). Im glad that I can do my small part to bring his often luminious music and writings to people.
I wanted a quote, to finish up this little rant, its not Henry but does nicely:
I am finished with myself, with my sacrifices and my pity,
with what chains me. I am going to make a new beginning.
I want passion and pleasure and noise and drunkenness and all evil.
But my past reveals itself inexorably, like a tattoo mark. I must build
a new shell, wear new costumes.
